Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA is a natural emulsifer which activates human stem cell genes (wnt pathways).
The wnt signaling pathways are a group of signal transductions made of proteins that pass signals from outside of a cell through cell surface receptors to the inside of the cell.
These bio-signaling pathways activate skin stem cells to replenish and form new skin cells, keratinocytes and fibroblasts cells, which produce collagen, GAGs and other, matrix substances to, combat visible signs of aging skin.
Human Gene Expression with Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA
With age and environmentally-induced inflammatory responses, skin cells can lose their regenerative balance and may not differentiate at a healthy rate. This can result in the loss of youthful looking skin and can even lead to other more severe skin conditions such as psoriasis. In the differentiation process, human stem cells found in the body form epidermal stem cells and progenitor cells in the lower part of the stratum basale. These cells proliferate a few times before moving up through the epidermis as they differentiate to keratinocyte cells. Eventually these cells lose their nucleus and become corneocytes which forms the outer protective barrier of skin. In humans, it is estimated that keratinocytes turnover from stem cells to desquamation every 40–56 days. Many factors including photo-induced damage can disrupt this process of cell renewal. Normalizing this differentiation process can hold the answer to skin rejuvenation and anti-aging.
Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is a unique lipid which occurs in the human body. It has been discovered that phosphatidylglycerol regulates specific human genes and pathways which act on keratinocyte skin cell differentiation, proliferation, inflammation and cellular hydration. Phosphatidylglycerol activates many cell regenerative processes and has been shown to normalize keratinocyte skin cell growth and development, bringing skin to a proper level of homeostasis.
Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA with phosphatidylglycerol acts as both a bio-compatible O/W emulsifier and a bio-active signaling compound which regulates the following regenaterive human gene pathways (Refer to this page).
Aquaporin Water-Glycerol Channel
Cellular Hydration with Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA
Aquaporins selectively conduct water molecules in and out of cells, while preventing the passage of ions and other solutes. Also known as water channels, aquaporins are integral membrane pore proteins. Phosphatidylglycerol has been discovered to act as a biological signaling compound expressing Aquaporin 3 (APQ3). APQ3 regulates water reabsorption and glycerol permeability. These cellular mechanisms may be essential for maintaining resilient well hydrated skin.
Down-regulating infammatory COX-2 with Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA
Cyclooxygenase (COX), officially known as prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase is an enzyme that is responsible for formation of biological inflammatory mediators. While it maintains important biological functions it can also cause significant tissue damage. In skin, COX-2 is expressed after UV exposure and has been linked with cancer. Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA has been found to down-regulate the expression of COX-2 enzyme.
A human-identical phosphatidylglycerol lipid supports anti-aging through biological signaling of aquaporin 3 and keratinocyte homeostasis. It emulsifies high oil phases, and is excellent for preparing thin emulsions and lotions with a fresh soft skin feel. Human gene expression studies have confirmed activation of skin regenerative, anti-inflammatory and cellular moisture pathways. Distinctive® Emul-Lipid BA also can improve delivery of cosmetic active ingredients with its high skin absorbing capabilities.
A bio-mimicking emulsifier capable of structuring both humectants and oils into crystal-like moisture layers provides barrier protection and sustained hydration for skin. As demonstrated in sensory consumer studies this ingredient is excellent for applications in moisture-rich creams and serums.
INCI Name: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols (and) Glyceryl Cocoate
A low HLB co-emulsifier provides photo-protection and anti-aging benefits with plant sterols which naturally mimic skin cholesterol structures. Distinctive® Emul-Lipid ST is recommended with use in combination with Distinctive® Emul-lipid BA and it can be formulated with other emulsifiers to improve formulation stability.
